Blogging From Scratch – Don’t Reinvent The Wheel
There are two approaches to learning how to do something new, either try yourself and keep making mistakes until you find out what works (aka the hard way) OR you can copy someone who is already getting it right.
As a blogger there are a few easy shortcuts you can take by copying others, today I’ll include just two examples but as you go on your way, keep asking yourself, who can I copy?
Niche Topics
Finding a niche topic can be tricky at times, racking your brain to think of all the things that people might be searching for then doing keyword analysis only to find it wasn’t as popular as you thought.. Well here are some great ways to find niches that are popular right now.
Read Magazines
Brett McFall asks “Would you like to get millions of dollars of market research for free? Check out the magazine stands”. On any given day there has been millions of dollars spent to chose the very headlines your reading. Each one chosen for its appeal to their readers, and its trending popularity. These magazines will often point out the latest niches for you to target.
Watch/Read The News
Headlines like “Badminton is the fastest growing teen sport in America” are perfect for finding that new niche.
Blog Design
Blog design can be a tricky one as it takes a whole lot of practise and analysing to find out what works best for your site and what stinks. But did you know there are a lot of people who have been through it before you, so why not cut the analysing and suffering bit and begin where the pros are at.
Check Out The Top Blogs
Checking the top blogs in your niche is a great way to find what is working within your niche. But because we are all working on getting our blogs better it is a good idea to check out blogs on blogging. These are the guys who should really have blog layout dialled. Questions you should ask when checkiing out other sites:
What does their layout look like?
What is in the sidebar and in what order?
What are the key features above the fold (the area you can see without scrolling)?
Where are their adds?
