Writing Blog Posts – 5 Ideas That Are Guaranteed To Work

posts-that-work

When it comes to writing great posts, sometimes we just don’t know where to start. Here are the top 5 most successful post ideas.

1) Lists

People love lists, they are easy to digest and quick to read. Even when it’s a topic people know they still expect they’ll read something they havent befor, if there are 10 things surely one will be fresh! Basically start with a number and go from there! The Top 10 People To Meet In Canada, 7 Things To Avoid While On Holiday, 10 Steps To Rock Hard Abs, 5 Reasons To Start Writing Lists Today (I might use that!).

2) How To

Solving a problem is one way to ensure success with your blog. Make sure your “How To” solution is easier than the problem itself (I’ve seen it go wrong!).

How do you find problems to be solved? Solve your own problems, create problems, find readers current problems (what have people asked you about in comments, via email, on twitter etc).

3) Resources

Sharing a list of useful resources is always a great way to give huge benefit to readers without doing huge amounts of work. Share the tools you find useful, research a few more and all of a sudden you have “A Comprehensive WordPress Plugin Resource”.

Sometimes it is just rounding up a bunch of other useful articles. Don’t think of this as giving traffic to your competitors, think of it as adding value for your readers. At the end of the day whose post are they going to bookmark? Hopefully your great resource one!

4) Share A Secret

Do you have a secret tool that no-one knows about? That power plugin that automates your traffic growth? By giving away your secret (you probably aren’t the only person to figure it out anyway) you get to be the guy that breaks the news. Also if someone is copying you, especially with online business, there’s still enough traffic to go around, so share the secret before someone else does!

5) Review

Reviewing the latest gadget or sftware can be a great way to get attention. Be relevant, there’s no point reviewing wordpress, it’s been done a million times and its just not news anymore. Instead review the latest release. If it’s relevant your readers will always want to hear it.

Bonus) VS Post

This is like a review post but instead of just reviewing the latest and greatest, you should match it head to head with its current competitor. E.g. Twitter VS (whatever is next) or Kindle 2 Vs Kindle Big Screen. Comparing the pros and cons of each then making a call on which one you pick can be a great way to get attention and also stir up conversation with your readers.

Now take 10 minutes and come up with a post for each idea.

Now you have your next 5 posts planned out, wasn’t that easy!

Even if a helpful post does not make you famous, it gives you a nice feeling when people leave comments telling you how your post helped them out. I once had a problem with Safari on my iPod Touch and it took ages to resolve. Once resolved I wrote a post about it, one to refresh my memory if it ever happened again, and two, to help others who may come across the same problem. On that particular blog, that post has more comments than any other.
