I know your auto DMs are probably great but there are many who didn’t get the memo. It doesn’t take long to get sick of auto DMs. I want my direct messages to actually be messages rather than needing to trawl through dozens of “friendly” sales messages. No, I wont buy into your MLM scam!

Good news! Although there are many services that will provide you with and Auto DM there are two that make up nearly 90% of DMs sent, and you can opt-out of them both! This means your twitter account will never receive Auto DMs from these two services.

Tweet Later

TweetLater is great service but too many muppets have caught on. If you want a service that can schedule your tweets and gives you better control I recommend you check it out. However if you want to opt out of the DM’s that get sent from tweetlater, here’s how:

1) Follow @OptMeOut on twitter, they’ll follow back within the hour.

2) Once they follow you back, send them a DM (with anything in it).

3) You’ll will receive an opt-out confirmation DM.

4) You have opted out! You can now unfollow OptMeOut.

If you ever change your mind about opting out just send a message to the Help Desk asking to be removed from the opt-out list.

Social Too

Social Too is a tool for Auto DMs, follows and unfollows. Like Tweetlater they also give you the opportunity to opt out of their auto DMs. 2 simple steps:

1) Sign up for Social Too

2) Tick the box below in the Preferences tab.

Done.

Congrats, you have now opted out! Expect to receive at least 90% less Auto DMs.

In a world where spam literally has a carbon footprint of 3.1 million cars, I too would be cautious about giving out my email address. But the offers are so great that we will inevitably hand over our details. As a result you may get what they are advertising or you may get emails from 20 different companies starting with:

“Hi Tim,

We understand you are interested in internet marketing.

You are just going to love the deal we can offer you today…”

This is usually followed by an explanation of either a reasonably useless deal or else a deal so good that if it really existed the internet would be forever changed. Either way you end up wishing you hadn’t given your email at all.

They are con-artists who make money by over promising to get your email address and then selling it to spammers. Then the spammers work a numbers game where they know if they send out 1 million emails that they will get a .01% conversion rate and that’s 100 sales.

So how do we fight back?

Fake addresses.

How to Sign Up for a secondary email address:

1) Make sure you are signed out of google

2) Go to mail.google.com

3) Then Register a new account.

Voila -> The power is back in your hands.

Now you can sign up to as many weirdo phony weirdo sites as you like.

How To Use Your New Fake Email Address

Assign a fake user name to your fake address.

Use your fake email address to sign up to the dodgy site. Then log into the account and get the activation code.

Once a week check the email for information you find useful or relevant. If you find you are registered to a good newsletter then sign your real account up as well. This is where the fake user name is handy, you can now sign up your real account with your real user name and your away.

Hope you enjoy your new freedom. Go and download all those ebooks from those sites you were to afraid to give your emails to!

Do It Right

Remember, the idea is to fight spammers and not hurt legitimate offers. If you don’t check your spam inbox on a regular basis and sign up to the legitimate newsletters then you are just stealing the ebook they sent you and in the long run there will be less quality content on offer for just your email.

Wow, just doing some research after writing this article. 80%-95% of emails sent are spam! Check it out Softscan Security Labs Barracuda Networks That’s unbelievable!

Writing posts for your blog is a must if you want to keep the traffic coming. It is influential in not only search engine ranking but also the percetpion of new readers. If you have fresh content your bounce rate will be much lower. If you dont have enough time to write these posts then here are your options:

Reduce Your Post Rate

To have the best search engine ranking it is recommended that you post daily. But not everyone has enough time (or enough to say) to write every day. If you are one of these people and you are not blogging as your day job then I would recommend you reduce your number of posts. I think it is important to have daily posts on your blog when you start but after the first 3 weeks you can reduce it to 2-3 posts a week.

Write Shorter Posts

If you are writing 1000 word posts then it is probably a good idea to write less. Most internet readers have a attention span of a goldfish and wont stick around to read your blog novels, ah, I mean blog posts. You should treat every reader as if they have an extreme case of ADD. Go back and delete any waffle out of posts that you don’t need. See Dropping the ‘D’ bomb in Writing Killer Content.

I generally write posts 400-500 words long. But there are others who only write 100 or 50 word posts and are very popular.

Get Better Skills

If you don’t know how to touch type then learn. An average person types at 19 WPM (words per minute) while top typists can type in excess of 100 WPM. That would take 2 hours of typing down to 24 minutes. If you are a slow typist then get a touch typing course, the time it will save you is well worth it. I type at about 60 WPM. Find your speed here typingtest.com.

Split Posts Into Parts

Sometimes to cover a topic in full you will need to split it into 2 parts. If you have good content in your first half a majority of readers will click through to the second half. The good thing is that they will be more likely to spend some more time navigating around your site. If they find the first half of an article the day it is produced then they may even come back the next day for part 2.

Set Your Blog On Auto Pilot

Read 5 Easy Steps To Set Your Blog On Auto-Pilot to learn about batching your work and using a special plugin to help set your blog on autopilot so you can take a break.

Guest Posts

Other people are usually more than happy to write posts for your blog as it helps them to build their traffic. You will also benefit if they promote their guest post on their own blog. So next time you find an interesting blogger ask them if they would be interested in writing a post for your blog at the same time!

Add Video Posts

Not only are videos popular with search engines but they are also quick and easy. If you add a 5 minute video post, guess how long it takes to make.. about 6 minutes. So what are you waiting for. Get hold of a Flip Camera and get online now.

Outsource Your Posts

Currently I write all my posts because I am very interested in my topic. However if you can’t keep up or are just not interested in writing about your topic anymore then outsourcing your posts could be a great opportunity for you. You can get quality posts from English speaking writers for as little as $10 a post. Make sure you test out your writers skills before you pay and even then only pay for a few posts at first. If you find their style is horrible or doesn’t fit with your target audience then you can change.

Don’t we want to get more free time? Blogging is great but if your need to write a post everyday how can you go on holiday? Here are some tips to save you time and set you blog on auto-pilot so you can take that well earned holiday (or for the workaholics, start another blog).

1) Install Future Posts Plugin

Get a WordPress blog.

Install Future Posts Calendar Plugin for your WordPress Blog. This will give a little display that looks like this:

And lets you know when your posts are schduled to be released by putting a green box around the dates when posts are scheduled to be released.

2) Less Screen Time

Then look away from your screen, yes I know its hard but trust me, you need to do it some time. (If you don’t believe it read Less Screen Time More Free Time). Once you have peeled your eyeballs off the screen brainstorm and write down a list of interesting post topics. If you carry a notebook for ideas then you may already have this list prepared.

3) Batch Research

Once you have the list you can do some research on each topic. The main reason to do research is to find new ideas that build on what you are saying and to get resources and facts. When researching I use a bookmarks folder to save interesting pages and at the same time I have a Google Notebook tab open to save small sections of an article if I don’t find the rest of interesting. I also save links and great points from other articles here.

4) Write The Posts

You may need a few minutes to warm up your writing muscle before you start writing but once you start you should be able to quickly get a good flow on. Then you should be able to churn out a bunch of good articles on your chosen topics. The more you practise the faster you get. A short simple article should take about 20 mins start to finish in writing time. Read Write More Posts In Less Time for more tips.

You should already have a good idea about what you are going to write after your research but you can skim back over the interesting pages to reference and find the links to share.

5) Add the Posts To Your Schedule

As you finish each post (make sure you search engine optimise them), then add them to your publish schedule. Where it says publish immediately click the edit button and you will get the option to change the publish date. Looks like this:

As you add each post it should add another green box around the date it is due to be released on. The more frequently you can update your blog the better as far as SEO goes but if you don’t have enough time to write all those articles either write shorter articles or post less frequently. Minimum of 2-3 a week.

Deal With The Illusion Of Productivity.
At the end of your next today look back on what you have actually achieved, balance that against your long-term goals and see how you went. 99% of people will realize that they didn’t achieve much. The first step to overcoming a problem, is acknowledging that you have a problem.

Deal With The Illusion Of Productivity.

At the end of your next today look back on what you have actually achieved, balance that against your long-term goals and see how you went. 99% of people will realize that they didn’t achieve much. The first step to overcoming a problem, is acknowledging that you have a problem.

Repeat This: “I have a problem”.

Good, now we can start.

Implement this motto as of today:

Less Screen Time, More Free Time.

The ‘Less Screen Time‘ motto stands for spending more time planning what you are going to do before you start to click away, strictly controlling the amount of time you spend on certain tasks and realizing that checking analytics every 30 minutes will not improve your traffic! This way you will have less screen time while you are working, but also your increased productivity will give you more ‘Free Time‘!

So here are my Top 5 Tips to increase work productivity.

1) Plan Before Typing

A long term strategy helps. This may take a little while to develop but trust me it will save you days/weeks of work!

Decide whether the tasks you want to complete today are really necessary to achieve your long term strategy.. and cut them if they don’t

2) Use A Count Down Timer

Allocate a certain amount of time to each task and then use a count down timer help you stick to it. Its is important to create a thing called eustress. Eustress is a healthy level of stress where productivity is increased and we actually feel good about it. If you feel yourself tipping over to distress then tacke a chill pill.

Parkinson’s Law states that “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” Having a countdown timer helps to shrink the amount of space a task can expand into. If you only have 30 minutes to write a post then it won’t stretch out into a whole day.

Remember you are self motivated and need to balance this for yourself.

3) Break Up Tasks.

Technology is giving us an even shorter attention span. So for most people, the longer they work on a task the less productive they are. So split tasks up and stick to the time frames you set yourself.

Take breaks, eat, drink and exercise in between – not only will you enjoy yourself you will be more efficient!

4) Create A “Later” Folder In Your Bookmarks Bar.

As you stumble through your searches tring to find that nugget you will innevitably find other AWESOME things that are irrelevant to your current objective. Learn to store these for revision later, by dragging the links into the “Later” folder. Not only will this help you stay on track, but it will also give you a time to use this other information more productively later.

Check the later folder at the end of your day. This is for personal entertainment as well as learning new things. Take notes on things you can do tomorrow, don’t bother starting them that night!

5) Kill Interruptions

Turn off email automatic alerts – Switch alerts to manual. (switching to the lowest frequency may help you transition at first.. trust me you wont miss anything!)

Turn your phone off during times of high focus/creativity -eg brainstorming or writing your posts.

If you are that way inclined, work early in the morning when no one else is there to distract you.
